Does Removing Audio Make a Video Smaller?
Removing audio reduces size, but the saving depends on audio bitrate, duration, and video bitrate. Audio is a smaller share of a complex high-resolution encode and a larger share of a simple low-bitrate clip.
How much space audio uses
Audio size is approximately bitrate × duration. At a constant 128 kbps, the stream spends a predictable amount each second, while video may range from hundreds of kbps to many Mbps. The same audio is a larger percentage of a simple 480p animation than a fast-moving 4K video.
tinyclip presets use 96, 128, and 192 kbps audio settings. Actual output still depends on encoder behavior, so compare the same segment with and without audio for a real answer.

- Create a separate silent copy for the web background.
- Mark silent or muted clearly in the filename.
